"How would you feel if my father impregnated you?"
"But our child would be your half sibling!" I wailed, completely inconsolable. You tried to comfort me by rubbing my back, but really, how the hell does one process such a proposition?
"I know," you said,"but at least we could keep my lineage intact."
Jenna Avery has been drawn to the idea of true love like a basic bitch is to pumpkin spice. At least basic bitches leave feeling satisfied. Jenna, however, has run the gamut when it comes to relationships. At the age of 30, she closed out her twenties with three ex-husbands, a suitcase filled with daddy issues and a margarita at the ready. Despite the trauma of narcissists and psychopaths, she found a way to rise above it all and create a successful business, travel the world and eventually, finding answers to questions she didn't even know she had.
My Ashes explores the idea that while we're all culpable for our actions, that maybe we're motivated in ways we never considered. Compiled of letters to the men that have influenced her, either positively or negatively, Jenna explores the trauma that most women encounter multiple times in their life, while also doing some soul searching. Closure was the name of the game, humor a mere side effect.
Triggers. They're the worst. The memories of what you've done are sometimes easily avoided, like pushing away a plate of food that disgusts me. The triggers, however, are what sneak up like the boogeyman. More than twenty years later, I still have trouble processing everything, despite over a dozen therapists, years of drugs, and thousands of hours spent 'fixing.'
My Ashes is not only a memoir of hookups and divorces, it's the journey of an average woman deciding that she wasn't going to continue allowing her daddy issues affect the path she took in life. Whether it's writing a heartfelt letter to her brother to writing about how it felt to find photos of herself having sex on the internet at the age of seventeen, Jenna finds ways to show that we're all connected through our experiences.
A must read for any human. Especially if you dated Jenna.

This book is a doozie. Not a single woman I know hasn't gone through at least some of the sh*t that this woman has gone through, but not very many I know has come through it with the amount of optimism and vivaciousness that Jenna has. The writing is brutal in its honestly but that's what I appreciate. Life is messy, painful and oftentimes not pretty to look at. But damn if this girl doesn't own up to it and choose to walk forward like a damned warrior princess! Too many people don't own up to their mistakes, and on top of that choose to risk keep making them to find out who they are and what makes them happy. Jenna is in the drivers seat of her own life and that people, is worthy of admiration!Product details

My Ashes Memoirs of a misbehaving woman eBook Jenna Avery Reviews
Though this book is full of some pretty tragic stories, it is incredibly positive and enjoyable. Jenna is brutally honest about her past, which many people are afraid to do. Her blunt humor kept me engaged throughout the entire book, and the prolific change in the woman she becomes is inspiring. Jenna, I truly wish you the best. Not only in enjoying the happiness within yourself, but also in finding a human patient enough and willing to embrace your incredible personality.
Such an amazing story of life, love, struggle, and so many of life's twists and turns that we've all encountered. This story is not only funny, honest, but it cuts deep and opens up into a beautiful journey of the author finding herself, despite everything. 10/10!
I totalllly enjoyed reading this book!! I finished it in less than 24 hours. Finding myself reading it at stop lights on my way to work and even at my desk when I had 100 things to mark off my "to-do" list. I was so sad when I realized I was on the last letter. This girl has an incredible story and has lived an incredible life despite her relationship struggles. Cheers to you, Jenna keep being a kick ass girl!!
So many of us are broken; so many of us hide it. We do our best to forget our past and sometimes we succeed. But we all have our painful experiences - the things that have made us who we are. We're all so afraid to say these things, because it makes us vulnerable, but when we open up and share ourselves completely, we allow space for amazing connections to flourish.
It's so amazing to hear someone else's experiences. To know that I'm not the only one who has lived through things like this and to cry at stories that I'm not sure I would have survived.
This book is a raw life with very little filter. It's very painful and not always flattering to the author. It's a hard read for those of us with high empathy. But the payoff is completely worth it.
Jenna's book is so deeply personal. I find it also inspiring. She has been able to get up, dust herself off, and grow herself and her business.
I first met Jenna when she photographed my brother's wedding (during the early Psychopath Adonis time). She was always smiling and radiating sunshine at his wedding. I friended her on Facebook shortly after. I loved reading her posts during her world travels. I was saddened when she cut her trip short to return home to him only to end up divorcing him shortly thereafter. Initially I bought the book to find out what really went down during this time.
After reading the entire book all I can say is ... Wow, Jenna. You have been through a lot. But you are an impressive women. You deserve all the happiness and love the world has. Don't ever doubt that. I know it's easier said than done, but hang in there. You are on your way to greatness!
Heart on your sleeve, can you get anymore honest than this? Thanks to Jenna for opening up the closet and just letting it all go...I hope this does give you that freedom you were looking for going into the future. This is a bit rough at times; more so that you want to go and find Jenna and give her a big hug or smack her upside the head, but through it all, it is an amazing journey. I believe that in life, you don't have to experience everything personally to have it impact your life, and this book and her story are proof of that. You can commiserate with her, you can can be thankful you didn't make that choice, you can be hopefully that things can get better, you can find the courage to leave/dump him|her/stand up for yourself, and you can be grateful for the life you have all the more - but in the comfort of paper pages and at the expense of the scars that she bares. I hope that Part 2 is filled with more happiness, and I want Part 1.5 to be all about those awesome travels we got a peak at. You are a true warrior, Jenna! I owe you a drink and a hug! and maybe that smack too. D
Almost any person in today's world has been in at least 1-3 of these dating/relationship situations.
If you're like me it's more like 5-8 of them, and if you've been in more of these situations then that, you should probably befriend Jenna. This is one of those books that as soon as you're done reading it, you'll turn around and order a copy for that one friend (or all 3 of them, in my case). Jenna's story is a brutally honest introspective of passed relationships while at the same time a highly relatable tale of modern love and wanderlust. I cried a little and laughed a lot reading this and highly recommend it!
