Felt like I was on a cruise with them. Enjoyed the connections of this big family and how they loved each other through life’s happenings. Mom loved her boys and I surely can relate but with a son and being only child we want what’s best and makes the happy.
I have yet to read one of these books that I didn't fall in love with it. The whole Latham family is such a joy to read about. So much love for family found in every one. Great series.
Even though this is volume 4 and I have not read any of the earlier volumes the story made sense. The prologue gave enough background information to set the scene for this book. A plot that moves along and pulls you into the lives of the characters.
My first time reading AJ Harmon. The title got my attention, as my husband and I are addicted to cruising. Love the family, enjoyed reading about their lives, and the family bond. Since we cruise many times with multiple people (family and friends), it was relatable in getting everyone together for meals, etc.
The Lathem family 2 week vacation is this stories main theme. The cruise in the Caribbean islands delves into the lives of the mother, father, 7 sons and their significant others. This writer gives you a piece of each of their lives through this story. Each piece brings you closer to understanding the family dynamics that can make up a family. Some families are blessed with the monetary means and the ability to give up accepted expectations of the people in such a family. The writer touches on accepting a gay son and his partner. Another topic is a son not married to his live in girlfriend. Overall a good read.
I enjoyed the story and getting to know the characters and although I realize I need to read books 1-3 in this series, I feel that there is no real depth to this book. This may very well be unfair of me to say, but generally if I do pick up a book in the middle of its series, the author includes some history of a storyline to ensure the reader has a grasp of a previous event to provide some continuity.
Having said all that, I like AJ Harmon's writing style and plan to read other books authored by her. Thank you.
First of all let me start by saying that I happen to be very avid reader, an equal opportunity reader, who enjoys all types of books. But I will admit I prefer reading Contemporary Romance or Contemporary Suspense/ Romance type stories the most. Why? I read because I love it, and because it's a way for me to escape all the bad things happening around the world today. And yes, I have a top 20 list of my all time favorite authors, but who doesn't, right? With that being said....I have discovered that I have become very partial to the authors that write really good series books. There are a lot authors out there that I have enjoy reading, who have written good romance series. Some that might even stick around in your mind for a day or two, after you're done reading them, but after that you finally move on to another series and don't give them another thought.

Then there are those authors that write a really fantastic series, that always seems to grab at your heart strings so tight, that even after months later they still have such a strong hold on you. So much so, that you find yourself going back and re-reading each and everyone of them over and over again. You even start to feel that to leave them behind, it would be like leaving your own family and friends behind. I would most definitely put this 'First Class' series by A.J. Harmon in this latter category, hands down.

What I love the most about these type of series, is that every time a new addition comes out in the series, it feels like going home for a little visit with my family and friends again. Not only do you get to see what happens with the new characters in the book, but you get to catch up with all the old characters, too. I love the whole big boisterous Lathem Family. Are they perfect? Not by a long shot, they all have their little quirks and flaws, but that just makes them feel so much more real to me. But they are a very close nit family, and they are willing to help out those much less fortunate than they are. I also love that this author included a gay couple in this series, too. And not only that, but everyone accepts him just the way he is. And not one single person in that family has ever treated him or his husband and different, or have ever love them any less than they do anyone else in the family, either. That's something that you very rarely see, but I for one am so happy she did. She takes the time to delve deeply into each and everyone of her characters, but at the same time every one of her books has very different and very intense storyline of their own.

This book deals with Katy and Mark, who have been engaged for a little over three years now. Katy hasn't had the best life in the past, so she's sort of leery about fully trusting any man, especially after what happened to her 4 years ago.. She does love Mark, with all her heart in fact. But she has to learn to trust him.

Mark knows and fully understands why she is the way she is, after all; he was the one who found her. In the mean time; he loves her enough to wait until she's ready to set that wedding date. And even if that day never comes, he's alright with that too, just as long as she's still by his side.

I highly recommend not only this book, but every book in this series. Just a helpful note You might want to start with book #1 and work your way through. You'll better understand each character more that way.
