Heist Society Ally Carter Books
Every now and then there's a story you sit down to read where the pages just come to life. The plot flows perfectly, the history makes the story believable, the characters are ones you'd like to hang out with in real life, and the setting leaves you feeling like you've traveled to those places, even though you haven't left your home. The Heist Society is one of those books.Kat walked away from her family and their world she grew up having a natural talent for, but even a con artist doesn't stray far like she wants to, especially when someone close to you is being framed for something they didn't do and those you love are threatened. Kat has a family who never turns their backs on each other and will do anything to help each other, even when the next con job is next to impossible to pull off. What I love about Kat's family is your considered family, whether by blood relation or from knowing this close knit family for years. I enjoyed getting to be apart of this family, though I would never want to know the person who crosses them.
Take intelligence, mix in down to earth and add in beauty, and you've got Kat. She is such a fabulous character to get to know. Kat isn't some young teen girl who doesn't know what she's getting into you. She's fully aware of the costs, and she isn't alone. She has her beautiful bombshell cousin, Gabrielle who has the brains to match her beauty. The Bagshaw Brother's, and the Hale, the fantastic love interest who has a complicated history with Kat.
Kat and Hale have this chemistry that just screams brilliance. Their scenes are sizzling and their lines together make me laugh out loud. It's not hard to see why they've quickly made their way onto my favorite's couple list. I love that they are evenly matched for the job that Kat is about to take, or should I say that Hale in one way or other another makes it close to impossible for Kat to say no to.
Ally's writing is addicting. It's not just the characters that I completely loved getting to know, but her plot flows perfectly, the history makes the story believable, the settings make you feel like you've traveled with the characters from the US, to London, Paris and Italy and the characters make you feel like you've just helped them plan the biggest con ever. Who ever thought being apart of a con artist world could be so enjoyable. Heist Society felt completely real and I love it when a story completely engages me like that.
Heist Society has a little bit of everything, which is why this has become an all time favorite book of mine. The only compliant I have is that the story had to end. I am anxiously awaiting to dive back into Kat's world with Uncommon Criminals releases this summer. I highly recommend picking up Heist Society!

Heist Society Ally Carter Books Reviews
HEIST SOCIETY was an excellent story about a well-planned caper and about a group of friends with unusual skills. Kat Bishop has decided to step away from her criminal family and has conned her way into an exclusive boarding school. But her side trip is ended when she is framed for a prank and expelled. Then she learns that her father has been accused of stealing a group of paintings from a very, very bad man and has only two weeks to return them.
The problem is that this time Bobby Bishop is innocent; he was pulling a much smaller heist in Paris at the time. He wants Kat to forget about it and stay with her safe boarding school life. But that ship has sailed and Kat along with Hale, who might be a boyfriend if they can ever stop sparring long enough to find out, her cousin Gabrielle and friends Angus, Simon and Hamish plan a way to get the paintings back.
I enjoyed this whole story. I loved the interactions between all the kids. I loved how conflicted Kat was about her old life and how much she wanted to start a new one. I loved her sense of family loyalty. I also loved that she was one very smart young lady who wasn't going to wait around for some man to rescue her.
I can't wait to finally read the rest of this series.
My daughters LOVE this series of books. Heist Society was read when my daughter was probably 14. She started at 13 reading Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls books. The daughter following at 12 yrs read through the Gallagher Girls at such a pace (1-2 months) that she has currently moved on to Heist Society. As a mom and avid reader I adored the Gallagher series and appreciated that for a YA novel they were not dripping with profanity and sex. Just enough romance, just enough toughness and suspense--actually the suspense kept my daughter up till 1am reading! Love smart, skilled, intelligent girls for my girls to read about. Really fun books for junior high/high school...yet a fun read for adults.

Since I so thoroughly enjoyed her Embassy Row series, I’ve embarked up Ally Carter’s Heist Society trilogy. Heist Society (Disney-Hyperion, 2010) is the first book in this fun, YA heist adventure series.
Fifteen-year-old Katarina Bishop was born into a family of high-end art thieves. She tried to run away from crime life by enrolling in a prestigious private school, but her longtime billionaire friend (and potential love interest), W. W. Hale, has her expelled. And perfect timing, for it turns out a notorious villain is after Kat’s father for a theft Bobby Bishop insists he did not commit. In order to save her father, Kat must find out who stole Arturo Taccone’s five valuable paintings and steal them back for Mr. Taccone, before he kills her father.
Now, I’m a huge Oceans trilogy fan and a general lover of heist films, so this story spoke naturally to my interests. It’s lighthearted, cinematic, dryly humorous, and not bogged down with too many details – just how I like my easy YA escapes! If I could’ve changed one thing, I’d have preferred it to have been written in first person, like Carter’s other books, instead of third person. Otherwise, this book was a fun international romp through Europe and the U.S., with a colorful cast of teen collaborators, an impossible mission, a mystery Robin Hood figure, and surprises at every turn. I was 100% entertained and will be eagerly devouring Book 2!
